Moving Abroad

The Economist magazine published an article several years ago entitled “The Death of Distance” in which they spoke about how the Internet and VOIP have caused long-distance telephone costs to plummet. Now we are seeing phase 2 of the death of distance in which many people no longer feel obliged to live where they work.

A consequence of the pandemic is that people who have been forced to work from home are beginning to see that they could do their work from anywhere in the world via the Internet with video conferencing tools. Germans are flocking to Portugal and Spain.

This week I have had a conversation with Dr. Andrea Szameitat about this topic. Have a look here.

If you are working from abroad or considering doing so, this conversation should be of interest to you.
