Two Talks and Five New Books for Leaders

Leadership can be a lonely task. Everyone around the leader seems to expect that she or he has all the answers. One way to expand knowledge and challenge yourself with new insights is through coaching. But that takes time and good coaches are not free.

Another way is through a personal development plan which includes regularly reviewing talks online and reading leadership books. The cost is inconsequential and you can do it when your time-schedule permits. Some leaders use audio books to take advantage of commuting and travel time.

First I would like to draw your attention to two videos courtesy of the Royal Society of the Arts. This organization is just 250 years young and continues to spotlight some of the newest and most interesting ideas.

My first example is by four-time New York Times best-selling author Gretchen Rubin who explains the basis of her book "The Four Tendencies" in a video that is under seven minutes. You can certainly find time to watch this at

People seem to fit into Four Tendencies: Upholders, Questioners, Obligers, and Rebels, but which one are you?!

It will make you want to get the book. But just in case you want more, you can watch a 50-minute interview with her at https://youtu.be/xZdl0kRFG7w.

When we change our habits, we change our lives. Gretchen Rubin stops by Google for a conversation with Logan Ury.

The RSA has also given us another fascinating short presentation by Simon SInek about the importance of consistency over intensity. See it at https://youtu.be/y5OV3RmXhbg

If you want to go right for the printed page, we have some recommendations for you.

The number of new books on the market for leaders can be daunting. Which ones should you read? My friend and colleague Melissa Lamson has written an article for Inc. Magazine entitled "The Five Best Reads for Leaders in 2018" in which she gives a short synopsis of five new books worth reading.
