Don't Fear Vulnerability

There haven’t been any new live TED Talks lately — due to COVID-19 restrictions on gathering. But I continue to gain inspiration and insights as I go back and visit earlier talks that I haven’t viewed before.

One such example is Brené Brown’s talk on The Power of Vulnerability. She is an American professor, lecturer, author, and podcast host. Brown holds the Huffington Foundation's Brené Brown Endowed Chair at the University of Houston's Graduate College of Social Work and is a visiting professor in management at McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin. Yes, she is a serious researcher, but she is also a great storyteller. In just 20 minutes she takes us on an entertaining and enlightening journey exploring what makes us fearful and what makes us happy. The answers will surprise you.

Brown studies human connection -- our ability to empathize, belong and love. In a poignant, funny talk, she shares a deep insight from her research, one that sent her on a personal quest to know herself as well as to understand humanity.

She is not new to this blog. Her book “Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead” is featured in a previous post of mine. But it seems to me that now when there is so much uncertainty in the world is a good time to urge you to watch her video which TED.org lists as one of their 25 most watched TED Talks of all time.

The TED Talk I watched this week is called “The Power of Vulnerability”. Click the image to watch it.
