Vitesco Team Explores D, E and I with Herb Nestler

May 2022 - During the past seven months the topics of diversity, equity and inclusion have been an important focus for the team at Vitesco Technologies automotive sensor operation in Deep Park, Illinois. Starting in October 2021 and continuing in May 2022 Herb conducted three workshop sessions to help all employees at that location to better understand how to utilize their diversity to the improvement of their creativity and productivity while creating a cooperative and congenial environment for all.

Through, video clips, discussions, role-plays and discussions the participants experienced how people sometimes feel belittled for no good reason. In this photo participants are playing a very special card game.

As companies develop a more diverse workforce, they are faced with insuring that every employee is treated with respect and given the opportunity to contribute to their maximum ability. Issues like prejudice, unconscious bias and confirmation bias work against that goal. Herb Nestler has now developed and delivered workshops which help staff members to see how their microaggressions and other behaviors make some colleagues feel unwelcome and unappreciated. Helping everyone increase empathy contributes to maximizing the benefits of a diverse workforce while promoting equity and inclusion. Ask us about how we can help your team or organization.

European Patent Academy Kudos

May 2022 - As I prepare to move operations from Germany to the US, I was delighted to hear from my primary contact at the European Patent Academy, Dr. Harald Pichlhöfer. Here is an excerpt from Harald’s letter:

With his vast experience Mr Nestler contributed significantly to the success of our events. He prepared panel discussions, Q&A sessions and provided result oriented coaching for speakers who were less used to publicly present technical or legal topics to larger audiences. The speakers appreciated very much his thorough preparations and hands-on tips. He proved to be pragmatic and able to inspire everyone. Not surprisingly, the trainees were highly satisfied with the training and coaching delivered by him.

In delivering his services, Mr Nestler showed a high degree of professionalism and discipline by always paying the necessary attention to detail. He proved to be a true and reliable team player, who co-operates efficiently and can adapt easily to changing working environments. He always addressed his counterparts with respect and consistently produced high quality work in a timely fashion.

September 2020 - When it comes to coaching and training, experience counts. Theories can be learned from books and online videos, but the message hits its mark when combined with real-life experiences. Herb Nestler does not have the age or wisdom of the fictional character Yoda from the Star Wars series, but for a mortal, he has been helping others from 50 countries to learn for the past 50 years. Herb says, “I bring experience, empathy and a passion to help others to all my assignments”. Let me bring “The Force” to you.

The Year Online Learning Came of Age

chris-montgomery-smgTvepind4-unsplash.jpg

June 2020 - Due to the need for social distancing and restrictions on travel in 2020, training and coaching via the Internet has blossomed. Several new and innovative online platforms have made it possible for us to conduct coaching and training programs online. These include synchronous programs where the program occurs in real time which make group wok, discussion and questions possible. Ansychronous online learning is “prerecorded” so that learners can sign on and learn at their convenience and replay segments which require further thought.

Herb Nestler has the technology and pedagogical understanding of these new delivery mechanisms and is meeting our clients’ needs to train and coach staff members in their own homes as well as in their individual offices rather than expecting them to travel and sit in a room with a number of other people. We would be happy to explore your needs for continuing education while social distancing.

Facilitation of an International Management Meeting
at Influential NGO

There are presently 38 countries which hold membership in the European Patent Organisation. The heart of their work is the examiner division known internally as DG1 where decisions are made on which applications are to be granted a patent.. On an annual basis this division's 150 top managers meet to discuss their opportunities and challenges. I have been honored to facilitate that meeting a few years ago in The Hague. My task was to keep things on schedule, keep attendees informed about procedures and insure that even in such a large group everyone had a chance to be heard. Here I am in action in this selection of video clips.

Some Publications Highlighting the Work of Herb Nestler

Articles authored by Herb Nestler:

  • "Overcoming the Barriers to Innovation", Oct 8, 2011, Journal of Intellectual Asset Management, with Dr. Claude Dreyer. Nestler and Dreyer explore the need and propose a concept for an Internet portal linking all stakeholders could facilitate the innovation process in Europe and across the world, thereby encouraging greater innovation.

  • "Intuition as a Key Factor for Implementing Theory U", Jan/Feb 2012, The System Thinker, a newsletter of Pegasus Communications, with Dr. Andrea Reupold Szameitat. Nestler and Szameitat make the case that for leaders to successfully face todays complex challenges; they need to shift from a sensing methodology to an intuitive one. Current leadership training and coaching often centers on developing tools and misses the opportunity to explore inner processes and behavioral change in the individual as a key factor for success. Theory U, a change methodology developed by Otto Scharmer, invites leaders to develop their intuition so they can see opportunities rather than rely on repeating past successes.
